When I left school I didn’t have a planned career and for a while did jobs in retail and customer service before falling into a junior marketing role. Seeing the corporate ladder as the answer to earning a good income and happiness I worked really hard chasing the money and raced up the corporate ladder. Although I had all the trappings of success, I was desperately unhappy.  To have worked hard to build a successful corporate career and earn that good income I found myself confused that it didn’t bring me the happiness I thought it would. I hated the corporate politics, grandstanding and extreme focus on shareholder value and little or no value for the people.

When I started my family I knew it was time to do something different. I wasn’t afraid of hard work, I just wanted to be rewarded for my efforts. And I wanted to do something that fit around my family. Yes, I wanted the best of both worlds, to be a mum and have an exciting meaningful career with a great income.
